These are serious issues demonstrating the problems inherent in electing judges. The solution: Merit Selection for the appellate courts.

The votes are in. And the unofficial totals show that Joan Orie Melvin has been elected to the Supreme Court.  The top three vote-getters for the Superior Court vacancies were Judy Olson, Sallie Mundy, and Paula Ott.

Supreme Court Election Sets New Fundraising Record

Pennsylvanians for Modern Courts broke the news earlier today that the current Supreme Court race has set a new fundraising record. Judge Jack Panella has raised at least $2,350,633 to date. This edges out the previous record set in 2007 by now Justice Seamus McCaffery.

It's election day. There are many judicial seats up for election, including a seat on the Supreme Court, four seats on the Superior Court and two seats on the Commonwealth Court.  In addition, many trial level seats are up for election, and judges across the Commonwealth are standing for retention.
