Pennsylvania to institute TV coverage of State Supreme Court proceedings

08/15/11

Chief Justice Ronald Castillo announced an agreement with PCN to begin gavel-to-gavel coverage of the state Supreme Court’s oral arguments. "My colleagues and I are pleased to open our courtroom to PCN's statewide audience so they can see how our court operates and follow arguments in cases affecting every citizen of Pennsylvania," Chief Justice Castille said. All proceedings will be recorded, save for conferences between co-counsels or justices; however, PCN has discretion to decide what will be broadcast. Sealed proceedings will not be covered and the Supreme Court may limit coverage to ensure the privacy of the parties or to maintain order in the court. Coverage is expected to begin on September 13th.
