Growing Support for Merit Selection in PA

This year, a hearing was held on legislation pending in the House to amend the state constitution to implement a merit selection system for Pennsylvanian's appellate courts. Governor Rendell held his own press conference to urge legislators to pass Merit Selection legislation to give Pennsylvanians the opportunity to vote on whether to change how we select appellate judges.  And in June, Governors Rendell, Ridge, Thornburgh and Schweiker joined PMC and PMCAction in a press conference announcing a poll showing widespread public support for Merit Selection.

The Senate has confirmed the Governor's nominee Judge Robert Freedberg of Northampton County to fill the vacancy on the Superior Court.
